ZENTANGLED ACTS OF KINDNESS

Zentangled Acts of Kindness

Oh my goodness!!! I am soooo excited about this! From the Challenge #178, at I Am the Diva, CZT, I found Ginny Stiles CZT, at An Artist Labyrinth. If you go to her blog you will learn about her idea of sharing Random Acts of Kindness. I read her post and got so excited because I believe in those little acts of kindness that can turn a person's day, or even life around!! So THANK YOU SO MUCH GINNY for sharing your idea with us all!!
Since she put this lil' bee in my bonnet, I just had to do something about it! And Fridays, here at my house, are a little less hectic so I was able to do some playing!! This is what I came up with.
Now for starters I am using artist drawing paper.(Not quite ready to use my Zentangle tiles.) Anyways here is the paper I used.
It is quite a flimsy paper, but I love the texture and it is tan in color. Which allows for touches of white to be used. (I don't know it just feels like it is homemade. I love textures.) It is also very inexpensive. So I can play all I want and not feel scared of mess ups.

These are the fronts of the little cards.
I did find the Washi tape and used it at the fold just to give some durability.  I also used some punch tools (as I also love those) to add to the edges of the fronts of the cards. I had so much fun with these.
I cut my paper 3"x6", so I could fold them and they would be an equal 3"x3". If I do more and represent Zentangle, I will make them the standard 3.5" cards.
I used tangles that I thought might lend to cute little messages inside. And here are the insides of the cards.
as always, click on image to enlarge
So the upper right hand corner card (looking at the front of the card pic) has wild patterns. So I added inside, 'Have a Wild day!' For the upper left card, that reminded me of bubbles, I wrote the bubbles comment! ( Really, how many of you can say 'bubbles' without smiling?) They go hand in hand. If you don't recognize the tangle in both of those two tiles, it's because it is my new one called
'Ooples' (click on it to view step outs)! I'm having so much fun with this one. I think it's because it's so easy and because there are a lot of possible variations with it.
So I can't wait to leave one of these little cuties somewhere. Oh, and you thought I was excited,..........you should've seen my kids and their response to what I was doing. The two older ones understand the concept and they want to help me figure out where to put these. I told them I could leave one, every now and then in the school office for the secretaries. And keep it anonymous! Hee hee, I can't wait!!!
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about my little cards, and/or go to Ginny's blog and leave her a comment. She would love to hear how she inspired someone else! :0)
Thank you, again Ginny for sharing your inspiration. We all, can make the world a better place, one Zentangle at a time!!!! Please do go to Ginny's blog, Here, (this is another post about her Random Acts of Zentangled Kindness). You gotta just love this idea and how we can make a difference.
Pay your Zen forward!
And let's help
Put a little Zen
into this tangled world!!

Totally Awesome

REDUX, REMIX, REVISIT COMFORT TANGLE and INCHIE, 'MAID'

I Am the Diva, CZT
Weekly Challenge #173
Redux, Remix, and Revisit Comfort Tangle
by
guest blogger
Sharla Hicks and Tangled Expressions

So while the Diva, Laura, is in Providence, Rhode Island for the 15th CZT class. She had a guest blogger fill in for her on her challenge. And I do have to say, it is a must, that you visit Sharla Hicks' blog. She is an amazing artist that has a unique style to Tangling. So, thank you, Sharla for filling in and giving us our challenge for this week! (God forbid, what would we all do without a weekly challenge to do? We need someone to tell us what to do!!!) :0)
Anyway, I actually have quite a few tangles that are my faves! Quite a lot, actually, but I only used 6. Is that cheating? So my redux, remix, explosion would be, to use black paper! I have not yet done a tangle on black paper. So I thought this would be my perfect opportunity to do so!
It was quite interesting to say the least, because the shading, and things, seemed backwards to me. Because I was using white,.............right?(shrug of shoulders) Anyway, this is what I came up with.

I don't know if you can see the Mooka done in black, on the outer perimeter of the tangle. The Tangles that I used were Mooka, 120 Ribbonz, Aquafleur, Quib, Angel Fish, and Quandary.

Please, remember to click on any image to enlarge.
These are the tools that I used. I started with regular 6"x6" square, black card stock. Then I did my dark, heavy lines with the Permapaque', by Sakura. (That was so much fun to use. It was as if I was painting. It was so smooth and flowed beautifully.) I did have to play a little to make sure I wouldn't get areas of heavy flow. But with a little playing first, it was easy! I'm so sorry, but I don't recall the name of the maker of colored pencils. But they're considered dry markers, and are meant for dark paper. Then of course my Charcoal White pencil for shading.
I was afraid to try tangling on black paper. But now I think I might have to do more of it. It was fun and I feel the outcome is more dramatic!!
Thanks again Sharla,
you brought me out of my comfort zone!!
Ciao, til next week!!

Every Inchie Monday
Weekly Challenge
'Maid'

For some reason I couldn't get past the obvious on this one! Let's just say, I took this word personal.
Is it because my kids are out of school right now? Is it because I feel tired all the time? Or, that I can't seem to keep up with everything???? Well, I'm sure all of you other moms can feel, or have felt this way at some time. It's a constant rotation.......
Eat
Clean
Pick up rooms
Vacuum
Dust
Eat
Clean
Laundry
Bathrooms
Eat
Clean
And then comes my favorite part
10PM rest, Tangle, Inchies, and computer time.
Sleep
Wake up,............
and it starts all over again!!!!!!!
I'm sure many of you can relate!! (I'm not complaining,.................or am I???)
Mom with her feather duster and a little missed cob web in the corner.
But of course, we do it all with 'love' :0)

Have great week,......... OOOOOOOOOhhhhh, I gotta and go sweep the floors after the little ones played in mud and trampled through the house!!!!

FREE MOTHER'S DAY PRINTABLE

Free Printable
for
Happy Mother's Day
card.
I give permission to make copies of this to color and use for your Mother's Day card or whatever it may be.
I just want to show how I laid out the letters for this project.  Laura from I Am the Diva CZT, has a new tangle. And that is what I used for these letters.

I lightly drew out my letters, then added the circles with my Micron pen and then went back and added  all my lines to make Laura's new tangle. Give it a try! It was fun!
May all Mother's have a very happy and Blessed
Mother's Day!!

IT'S TIME TO ZENT'EGG'LE

ZENT'EGG'LE
your Easter eggs this year!!!

Hello Everyone, and Happy Holy week!!! I just wanted to do a little 'Egg'stra post on Zentangled Easter Eggs! You can go to my post on March 28, 2014, When, I believe, I posted my first Zent'egg'led, Easter Egg. I use a real egg, only because I have been doing artwork on eggs for 15 years now, and I have a lot of blown out eggs saved up! But being that I have started the awesome art of Zentangle, this is my first year Zent'egg'ling an egg.
I just want to share some helpful hints that worked for me.

If you look in this photo, the colored Recollections markers, worked great on the natural egg. (Now I have not yet tried them on plastic eggs.) But one of the BEST finds I have come across, is the 'PERMANENT LePEN' !!! I will never go without owning one of these awesome pens! The secret to these pens is that they are alcohol based. Therefor they dry 'lickity split'!!! No need to wait for drying time! I have tried them on so many slick surfaces, and each time, it works! Plus it does not rub off!   (I found it was a hidden secret, for people who personalize Christmas ornaments, in the shopping mall. They never wanted to tell me what kind of pen they were using. So I was on a hunt. And a very nice sales clerk at JoAnnes' Fabrics let me try some pens out without purchasing them first. And,.... Wah La, I found the secret treasure!!!!) I'm sorry, but some things "ARE" worth letting out of the bag! I believe in sharing the good news!!
So again, if you go to my past post, you will see one example. Then I decided it would be a great contribution to send one to the CBS Sunday Morning, Zentangle effort. Linda Cobb and Linda Halvorsen, are the two CZTs that are organizing this great effort. Trying to get CBS to run an excerpt on Zentangle and the founders, Rick and Maria! I think it is awesome!! I hope it works! (Entries were supposed to be in by April 1st, but I see that more people are still sending them in,.....Like me! ) If you go to Zentangle Blog, you can see sooooo many beautiful and creative entries that fellow Tanglers have sent in! It's not too late to enter yours too!!!
So here is my entry. Including a Zent'Egg'le!!

My story is about using Zentangle to bring awareness to a 'CAUSE'! You can see by going to the header of my blog and click on  Ripple Effect. Also, if you go to labels marked 'Brain Cancer Awareness', you will see more Zentangle for a 'CAUSE'!

click on any photo to enlarge

For the very bright yellow, I had used a water color brush pen. I don't have the package anymore, otherwise I would share the brand.

I hope you enjoyed the little bit of info. I hope that it helps!
So go on an 'Egg'stravaganza, and
Zent'Egg'le
your Easter Eggs this year!!
If I have a chance, I want to do more Zent'Egg'les, and if I do, I will add them to this post!

QUANDARY

Weekly Challenge #161
"In a Quandary about 'Quandary' ?????"
Well, I hope this helps you out, then! For some reason I had trouble with the triangle seed step out for quandary, myself. Well, I have always loved to draw flowers, and then it hit me! Draw a 6 petal 'Quandary'! I found that using this method, it helped me feel mere creative and not so restricted with triangles. And yet, just like Laura states in her post, you don't have to be perfect! So think of it as a flower. Sometimes petals fall, and sometimes they are a little 'caddy wampus' (one of my favorite words to describe lopsided or mis shapen). Anyway, I find that if you start out with two petals directly across from each other and then add two more, and then the last two, you have a flower! Then the neat thing about that, when you add your next flower, and use the same method, you end up with triangles!!! Wha la!!!! (JUST REMEMBER TO ROTATE YOUR PAPER!!) I find that helps enormously, too!!! So here goes....... (let me know what you think...)
click on image to enlargeI just learned of Helen Wolters awesome you tube video with a step out of Quandary also. Mine is similar , so between the two of them, they might be able to help someone out.
Yes, it's Monday morning and I'm still adding to my last week post. Well, Anniversary is over and I woke up feeling like I didn't get to really get into last weeks challenge. So here is another entry (as you can see a little oops in there. I didn't plan my ribbons in the right places. Close but not totally.)
So sorry this is not tip top quality, but I really shouldn't have even done the challenge this week! I HAVE SOOOOO MUCH TO DO WITH MY PARENT'S ANNIVERSAY!!!! YEEEKSS!! But I just gotta say this! "Laura, it's all your fault!!! You put out the best challenges! So much so, that I think I am addicted!!! I can't go on with my week until I have entered the 'Diva Challenge Zone'!!" So really what I'm saying is THANK YOU LAURA!!! I think know matter what my week is like, it really helps to get into that Zen, and take a break from everything else. I think that is what helps me stay sane!!! :0)
Real quick, this one I started while on my camping trip. It's a handbag that I'm trying to tangle all over! And I used 'Quandary'.
Have a blessed week!!!

120 RIBBONZ

'120  Ribbonz'

This is a new tangle that I created, inspired by my niece, and her battle with brain cancer! The title of this is to let people know that their are 120 different types of brain cancer. And the color of brain cancer awareness is gray! Please use this tangle and help promote Brain Cancer Awareness, and/or any other cancer! Let's spread the word! Let's show our compassion!!!
Again, let's show support to our loved ones and/or anyone out there that is battling cancer!
Tangle '120 Ribbonz' and show we care!!
Start that 'Ripple Effect'!
My new tangle: "120 Ribbonz"

hugz IN kizzez

hugz IN kizzez

Here is my very first tangle of my own. I always sign letters and cards with an XO. So with Valentine's on the way, I figured it would be a good time to share this tangle! There are many ways to show different variations of it too, but I have just included one finished tangle. I hope to add a Zia that suites Valentine's Day!
Here is the deconstruction.

I'm sorry for any confusion, but I found my original deconstruction and the title of it is hugz IN kizzez!

This was just a fun Zentangle. As you can see I keep on using Aquafleur! I can't seem to get it out of my system!!
For this one I used Tangle Patterns String 016 and Tangles hugz IN kizzez, Angels Fish, and Bubbles

Ps. If you have a moment, you might want to check out this fun little ditty about XO's. It's kinda cute! How XO came to be Kisses and Hugs and then this one too, Urban dictionary: XO. Both are probably senseless info that might help you out with Trivial Pursuit, someday! hahaha
And now, since first writing this post, I have now come up with some Valentine's influenced Zias!

This tangle contains, hugz IN kizzez, Mooka, and Jailed Johnny!

Without any red!

With a touch of added red!!
This Zia is a Helen Williams, inspired piece! Man,......she is amazing! You must check out her blog and see all the other impeccable Zias and tangles that she creates! She definitely has a style, all her own! But it's fantastic!!! Anyway, her tangle is Heartline and then I added my creation of hugz IN kizzez!
I do hope you try this tangle and let me know what you think!

Go put some Zen,
into this Tangled world!!

Toilet Paper Roll Gift Boxes

FUN AND EASY

Time to put those toilet paper rolls to use!!
Now if you're like me, every time a roll of toilet paper is finished, I look
at that cardboard tube and think, "There's gotta be something I can do with this!!"
Anyway, I saw this on Pinterest, but I could not find the original pin, to give credit to the
person I learned this from. (so sorry)
So anyway, here is my version of these cute lil' gift boxes.

The papers I used to cover the tubes
I bought at JoAnn's Fabrics. They come in a stack already the perfect size
to cover the roll.
I used the Sobo glue and went around the edges of the paper and X'd the center.
Then I applied it to the roll.
Next fold down about 1" of the end on one side and then proceed to do
a total of 4 folds.

This is what the outcome should look like.
I used red, white and blue because my son's birthday is on 4th of July.
He wanted those colors for his early school bday party.
The kids just loved them!

I can only imagine how cute they can be, made for baby, or wedding showers!
Then just fill them up with whatever you'd like!

Save those rolls!
It's amazing how long I had been saving them and only had 25 when I went
to make these! (I thought I would have had lots more than that)
Have fun!!

PEACE BE WITH YOU

 Goodbye 2012
and
Welcome 2013

THIS,........IS.......MY WISH,........... FOR ALL,
IN THE
*NEW YEAR*
AND
ALWAYS!!!!

And,
I would like to share with you how I did this project.

I have a sketch pad that I usually will draw and start each new project with.
It's my idea book and my inspiration.
After I draw my first sketch, then I draw out my project in the size I want.
I was lucky that I was able to see my lettering through this blue paper.
I used a light box to make it more visible, and then I lightly traced it onto
the snowflake paper.
As you can see I use the wider paper. It is 1/4 inch.
I used my rough draft to help size and shape my paper before I glued them down.
One letter at a time and it starts coming together!

This is the way I do most of my projects. I create as I go!
I then added snowflakes to give that 2D affect.
Photographing quilling can be fun and yet tricky.
So with this project I tried all kinds of different angles and other things.

This project was not made for anybody in mind so I really haven't done
anything with it. But I did add it to my Christmas card!
And I did think about sending it to Snowflakes for Newton, but
I actually have a new inspiration for all those
beautiful little children going back to school, to help make
their first day back, a true winter wonderland.

These next photos are just pics I took and then changed with
my computer. It was kind of fun to see how one
picture could look so different.

I do have to say, this post was done last minute and very, very late at night
and it probably will not be one of my favorites, but I wanted to get this out
before the new year begins!

God Bless you and your families
and I will post again
next year!!!

:0)

Love to you all!
Annette Carlo
