TOOLS/TRADE and 'SNAIL'

Weekly Challenge #206
'Tools/Trade'

MY choice of tool, was wax and an egg!! Last year I used markers on real eggs to create Zent'Egg'les, for Easter. Well, years ago I use to do the real Pysanky eggs. It has been way to long since I have done this, and when I pulled out my tools, I realized, just how much I miss working with eggs and Pysanky! Anyway, the process is slower than that of a marker, but it is very zen and relaxing!

Here is the same egg, but I have used vinegar to eat away part of the shell and that is why it is so much lighter in color. I will be doing a special post for more about that process, soon. So keep your eye out for a how to! If I were to remove the wax, the darker brown color of the egg will be the design!
Ok, so I know how to do Pysanky on eggs, but doing tangles, ..........was a whole different experience!  The process of laying out a design is different.  But oh, so much fun!!!
Once I had finished that project, I then I thought I would try another tool that I have been wanting to play with to create Zentangle. Paper strips!!! I have been working on a project where I will be combing Tangling with Microns and Tangling with paper! Tangled,....Quilling!!! Here is my first go at it. (Really so much of quilling is using tangles, but in a different sense.)  With Zentangle there are no mistakes. But with quilling, it is a little more difficult to allow for mistakes.
My tools that I used are in this pic.

I used as many scrap pieces of quilling paper as I could that would look ok.

I did shading with the gray marker.

This was so much fun too!!! I truly love quilling, but it takes so much time and patience to complete a project. That's probably why I fell in love with Zentangle. I can see results and finished project within 30 min. to an hour. This project just got me so excited to finish the big one that I have been working on for my niece.

Thanks Laura for the challenge! It's always nice to stretch our comfort zone!!!

Now,
go put some
Zen
into this
TAngleD
world
!

Weekly Challenge
'Snail'

With trying to stay to my challenge, in doing all of my Inchies the Zentangle way, I just had to use Bijou for this one. Then I had to do a little bit of 'play on words'. So my Inchie is with Bijou and 'Snail' mail!!!
I tried to use as many different tangles as I could, but I have to be honest, this is going to be hard to do all year!!

I hope to see you all next week
as we Inchie our way there!!

(((hugs)))
to all!
Have a blessed week!!

"ESSENZA" Quilled piece for THE ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION

This is a picture of one of the greeting cards that I drew.
Living the Year of Faith
This post is to share with you the beauty of my faith and part of my heritage.
In 1924, in San Francisco CA, Reverend Albert R Bandini and
Sir Luigi Providenza, founded the organization "the Italian Catholic Federation."
Their goal was to "awaken a more intense Christian life among the Italian population of
California."

The co-patron saint for the ICF is St. Mary Frances Xavier Cabrini. She was the major
benefactor for Italian immigrants to the US. She was the first naturalized US citizen to become
a saint. To know more about this beautiful saint, go to ICF website.

Over the 89 years, the charity and good works done by this group, has grown. And so has the
organization. There are now 172 branches. Most of them being in Northern CA, but
also in Nevada, Arizona, and Illinois! It's an awesome organization, with
an awesome purpose!
This Labor Day weekend, the ICF  celebrated its' 83rd convention. (This convention is held
every year, on Labor Day weekend.) It is a beautiful weekend, shared with people of astounding
faith, unity and love.
We had a wonderful opportunity to attend it this year. In fact, our district, hosted it. A beautiful
mass was celebrated every day of the convention.
A big part of the charity that the ICF donates to is Cooley's Anemia. Childrens Hospital & Research Center Oakland, is one of the specialty centers, that help people that are suffering from Thalassemia(Cooley's Anemia). Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder. Italians are at high risk of this blood disorder. Hence the reason why the ICF adopted this charity.
Another charity is for young high school graduates.
Scholarships are given at every branch, and continued throughout the students 3-4 years they are attending college.

The ICF also gives out a Pope John XXIII award every year. This award is given to a lay person, who best exemplifies the humanitarian qualities of this exemplary pope. This year it was awarded to
Bruno Serato, owner of Anaheim White House Restaurant. He is also the founder of the non-profit organization, Caterina's Club. Caterina's Club feeds low-income families, pasta and
vegetables, 7 nights a week! Bruno Serato has been doing this for the past 8 years. He has served
more than 500,000 meals to date. His story of coming here to America and his inspiration for doing this act of kindness, is amazing, and
heartwarming! He well deserved this honorable award!!!

So many other good deeds are done by the ICF.
If you are Catholic and Italian (or even just a part Italian), look up the ICF
to see if there is a branch near you and JOIN!!!
Wonderful, faith filled Italians coming together as a 'Familia'
"Ah, Bellesimo!!!"

The branch my family and I belong to was hosting this year's convention, so
I thought I would donate some of my quilling art to the boutique and donate the proceeds to the ICF.
I had quilled one piece and drew up 18 different styles of Italian greeting cards.
(I enjoyed myself so much as I was creating all of these items.)
The quilled piece that I did was sold by a silent auction. It was exciting to see
that my work touched people, and that they were bidding on it.
The couple that had the final bid on it had to leave early, so unfortunately, I was unable to meet them.
(May God bless them and may my work bring them joy! )

I had seen this saying on a plate and it inspired me to make this!
The design is my own!

Please, I would love to hear any comments or questions you might
have!

BABY KAIYA

SWEET BABY KAIYA

I have a girlfriend that just had a
baby girl. She named her Kaiya.
I asked her if I could make her something for her room.
She sent me a picture of her decor.
(I tell you, it makes me want to have another lil' one. )

Isn't it precious?

So this was my inspiration,
and reason to get started!

I actually went and bought papers to match her docor, and cut them to quill with. I used a heavy cardstock, and I probably won't ever do that again. It kept wanting to peel apart, and separate. But I was able to make it work!
This is the completed project!!!

 NOW,..........
I HAVE A CONFESSION.

MAKE SURE WHEN YOU QUILL A NAME OR WORD,
YOU SPELL IT CORRECTELY!!!! (heehee)

So this was the actual completion of these piece!!!!
OOOOPS! I spelt her name wrong!
So I actually took the 'Y' and 'I' off and repainted and then requilled those two letters.

notice I had the letters 'Y' and 'I' switched
 So if you ever
make a mistake, don't be too quick to
throw it out and start over.
Thank goodness, my mistake wasn't
a  big one. But I do
have to say, it was a challenge,
none the less!!!
But I did it!
:0)
And mommy loved it!!!
I'm just thankful that I caught the misspelling before I gave it to her!
(Can you believe that I didn't catch that error until I was totally finished with it?)
Crazy!!

WINTER WONDERLAND

Snowflakes for Newtown

On December 22, 2012, I did a post about
Snowflakes for Newtown. Being that I had wanted to create
something for the town of Newtown anyway, I decided, a
Winter Wonderland project would be a perfect addition to theirs.

Now, it took me a while to create it and finish it. In the meantime when I went to
send it yesterday, I saw that they were no longer accepting anymore
snowflakes Read here. They had received so many, that they had to end their cut off date early,
even though their final day of receiving them, was to be the 12th of January.
So as happy as I was for Sandy Hook Elementary, on getting such a strong response
of people wanting to send their bits of love and support, I was also
saddened that I didn't get my contribution completed in time.
Here it is, anyway!

Oooops, my daughter's lil face got in on this pic :0) She likes the camera!

I made 20 little 'white' snowflakes to honor and remember

Charlotte Bacon, 02-22-06
Daniel Barden, 09-25-05

Olivia Engel, 07-18-06
Josephine Gay, 12-11-05
Ana M. Marquez-Greene, 04-04-06
Dylan Hockley, 03-08-06
Madeleine F. Hsu, 07-10-06
Catherine V. Hubbard, 06-08-06
Chase Kowalski, 10-31-05
Jesse Lewis, 06-30-06
James Mattioli, 03-22-06
Grace McDonnell, 11-04-05
Emilie Parker, 05-12-06
Jack Pinto, 05-06-06
Noah Pozner, 11-20-06
Caroline Previdi, 09-07-06
Jessica Rekos, 05-10-06
Avielle Richman, 10-17-06
Benjamin Wheeler, 09-12-06
Allison Wyatt, 07-03-06

These children were so 'pure' in heart and each one of them had their own special
personality and interest. I thought each snowflake needed a 'sparkle'.
Therefor to show their own little smiles, personalities and importance, I just had to
let them shine, with a little bling!
We now have 20 more little Angels in Heaven!

The shadow box that I used, had three layers to it. So I utilized that concept to create a layered effect.

To honor and remember these outstanding adults,

Rachel Davino, 07-17-83
Dawn Hochsprung, 06-28-65
Anne Marie Murphy, 07-25-60
Lauren Russeau, 06-?-82
Mary Sherlach, 02-11-56
Victoria Soto, 11-04-85

I made the larger snowflakes! When you read about them, they all
loved children and the jobs they had!
God, thank you, for Earthly Angels like these!
I'm sure they are in Your heavenly kingdom, as well!!

To all the families who are suffering from the loss of one of their loved ones,
I will continue to pray for you!!
"MAY GOD'S PEACE BE WITH YOU AND COMFORT YOU!!"

This year I have chosen to make it a year of PEACE!

I also ask that as a world and of humanity, that we pray for all of our young adults.
Those that are lost and strayed, that are committing acts of violence and outrage.
That with God's Peace and Love, they will know that
God will help them through any darkness, and they need not fall into the hands of the devil!
Please, this will help lead us to PEACE!

PEACE BE YOURS!

Please, if you have any comments I would love to hear them!

PEACE BE WITH YOU

 Goodbye 2012
and
Welcome 2013

THIS,........IS.......MY WISH,........... FOR ALL,
IN THE
*NEW YEAR*
AND
ALWAYS!!!!

And,
I would like to share with you how I did this project.

I have a sketch pad that I usually will draw and start each new project with.
It's my idea book and my inspiration.
After I draw my first sketch, then I draw out my project in the size I want.
I was lucky that I was able to see my lettering through this blue paper.
I used a light box to make it more visible, and then I lightly traced it onto
the snowflake paper.
As you can see I use the wider paper. It is 1/4 inch.
I used my rough draft to help size and shape my paper before I glued them down.
One letter at a time and it starts coming together!

This is the way I do most of my projects. I create as I go!
I then added snowflakes to give that 2D affect.
Photographing quilling can be fun and yet tricky.
So with this project I tried all kinds of different angles and other things.

This project was not made for anybody in mind so I really haven't done
anything with it. But I did add it to my Christmas card!
And I did think about sending it to Snowflakes for Newton, but
I actually have a new inspiration for all those
beautiful little children going back to school, to help make
their first day back, a true winter wonderland.

These next photos are just pics I took and then changed with
my computer. It was kind of fun to see how one
picture could look so different.

I do have to say, this post was done last minute and very, very late at night
and it probably will not be one of my favorites, but I wanted to get this out
before the new year begins!

God Bless you and your families
and I will post again
next year!!!

:0)

Love to you all!

SNOWFLAKES FOR NEWTOWN and SNOWFLAKE PATTERN #2012

 Hello All!!!!
I found this on
It's such a wonderful idea, I just had to share it with you too!
Thank you Antonella :0)!
Snowflakes for Newtown
When school resumes for Sandy Hook, it will be in a new building.  There are many parent-volunteers who are working to ensure that the students are welcomed back by a winter wonderland.  They are doing this by decorating the new school with as many unique snowflakes as possible.  This is how you can help, and get everyone in the family involved young and old alike.
From the organizers:
"We encourage senders to be as creative as possible, remembering that no two snowflakes are alike. Please make and send snowflakes by January 12, 2013 to the Connecticut PTSA"
Here is the Address for those wishing to contribute:
Connecticut PTSA
60 Connolly Parkway
Building 12, Suite 103
Hamden, CT 06514

I think this is such a beautiful idea and gift for all those hurting hearts!!
May Peace find it's way into their hearts!

Peace be yours,
Annette :0)

SNOWFLAKE PATTERN #2012

I really wasn't planning on posting this blog just yet, but I thought it went well with the 'Snowflakes for Newtown', which I just happened to stumble upon this evening!
Every year, I design a new snowflake pattern, and make them, and give them to a few "select"
family and friends. As it is that equals to about 15 snowflakes!
I try to remind myself to start them in September, because they do
take some time to do. Especially 15 of them!
But unfortunately, this year I was busy then too, and now I have only
6 of them completed!!
Yikes!!
(I'll just have to do some days of going to bed at 3 am)
:0)

I hope this is legible for everyone to see!

This board is to help keep all your shapes the same size. I just love it!!
Anyway, follow directions that are in the above pattern.

To get the eccentric style, drag all of your layers to one side. And place a pin. Then add a little bit of glue, like in the picture below. Wait for it to dry and then pinch your shapes.

Once you have shaped all of your loose circles. Then put them in place for gluing.

Side note: to create the small open circles and open marquise
I wrapped a 4" strip around my quilling tool. Wrap it once and place some glue, then finish wrapping and apply a dab of glue at the end of the strip. Slide it off of the tool and then you have your circle. To get the marquise, just pinch both sides.

I use graph paper. I know there is a download for a snowflake graph, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, glue and hold with pins.
Snowflakes are tricky, in the sense that all sides have to be equal.
So pins are very helpful in trying to achieve
perfection.

The small open circles and marquise are glued second to the last. The very last thing to glue, is the silver loose circle, right in the center.

And here is the finished product!

You can use different colors to get a different look,
or add glitter, or gems, or what ever fluffs your snowflakes!!

I hope you like this and use it!
Just remember though, for the "Snowflakes for Newtown",
it would be nice that they all be different.
Remember, no two snowflakes are ever alike!

Enjoy and share this with anybody and everybody you know!
And don't forget to send your snowflakes to Newtown!!
26 Acts of Kindness!

May Peace be yours
Love
Annette

Please, if you do make a snowflake using this pattern, can you post it to my blog and share it with others...? It would be neat to see all the different ones! ;0)
